    Museums
There is a diverse collection of museums in Oost Gelre. The Stadsmuseum Groenlo for instance showcases the history of Groenlo as a fortified city. The steam-powered sawmill ‘Nahuis’ is the only remaining working sawmill of this type in Holland. At the De Klok brewery, the bar ‘de Lange Gang’ houses a presentation about the Grolsche beer brewery, which was located in Groenlo for centuries. In Groenlo it is also possible to visit a display farm and go to Huijs Basten Asbeck, a gallery showcasing both modern and traditional art from around the world.

    Museum ’Erve Kots’ in Lievelde

The Open Air Museum Erve Kots is located in Lievelde. This beautifully situated farm museum takes the visitor back to the days before mechanisation. At the cheese farm Weenink in Lievelde visitors can see with their own eyes how farm products are made. The Avog’s Crash-museum in Lievelde explains the history of the Achterhoek in the Second World War. For more information and museum opening times contact the tourist information office in Groenlo or Lichtenvoorde.

    Monuments
The municipality is filled with historical buildings and therefore many monuments. The cannons on the Kanonswal in Groenlo are an example of this. Further, in Groenlo there is the R.K. St. Calixtus church and the Old Calixtus church. It is possible to enjoy a guided tour through the church buildings and to climb the towers. In Vragender visitors will find the St. Jans Chapel. In this village it is also possible to view the ruins of the 16th century St Jacobs Chapel. The Werenfridus church, known locally as the ‘Cathedral of the Achterhoek, can be found in Zieuwent.

In Lichtenvoorde visitors will find the old Dutch Reformed Johannes church (1648), and located behind this is the Richtershuis ’t Hof (whose wall supports date form 1702), which used to make up part of the (former) Huis Lichtenvoorde. Close to Lievelde are the defences ‘the Engelse Schans’, the remains of the line of defence around Groenlo.
In the fields of Harreveld you will find the proud old windmill Hermien, a belt mill dating from 1819. The mill is still completely operational and is regularly put to use. A second windmill can be found in the village of Vragender: The Four Winds, dating from 1869. The mill is used to grind wheat in the traditional manner.
