The new municipality logo is based on the shape of a butterfly, with both halves opening to form a new whole. The butterfly represents the developments that the old municipalities of Lichtenvoorde and Groenlo have undergone, as well as beauty, friendliness, and independence. Elements found within the new municipality of Oost Gelre make up the design within the butterfly’s outline.
The symbols represent various aspects of the new municipality. The different elements indicate how varied the municipality is. Attention has been given both to the individual and to the combined total.
The colours chosen - red and purple - are surprising, active, friendly, clear, and exuberant.
